Henbury is a vibrant neighbourhood. As a veterinary practice we like to get involved in what is going on.
Schools
We send letters to all the local schools twice a year, offering school visits from Maria, one of the vets. For the younger age groups we do teddy bear clinics, where the children pretend to bring their ill teddy to the vet. Maria has also found that the children really like to look at X-rays, and we try to find out what type of animal we are looking at. Most of the time the children think they are looking at dinosaurs!! We also try to find out what has gone wrong.
For the older children we talk about working with animals and what type of subjects you have to study.
We have also had groups of school children visit the practice to see what we do.
Scouts
We have had visits to the practice by Beavers and Scouts. They seem to enjoy it, we will normally have some of our own pets at hand to let the children pet them. We try to educate them about general care for pets, prevention of disease and parasites.
WI
Maria is happy to do talks about being a vet, pet selection, the history of Viking Vets or any other topics they may want to hear about.
