Advice for looking after your puppy.
Vaccination
We advise that puppies are vaccinated against parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis and leptospirosis. Puppies can have the vaccines at eight and twelve weeks. They can go out one week later. We strongly advise annual booster vaccinations.
Worming
We recommend that puppies are wormed every 2 weeks until 10 weeks then every month until six months. Then every 3 months like the adult dog. All puppies will have worms, they get them from their mother both in the womb and when they start to suckle.
Insurance
Good veterinary care costs a lot of money therefore we recommend pet insurance. We have insured all the practice pets because if we ever need any specialist care for our animals we don’t want money to be an issue.
Flea control
There are lots of different products on the market, all the ones from us are prescription only and more effective than the ones you can buy from the petshop. Our favourite for the time being is Prinovox, which is also effective against roundworms and fox mange, and Seresto which is also effective against ticks.
Feeding
We strongly recommend that you feed your dog on a complete diet. This is balanced and will work out cheaper in the long run. Good quality food is low residue meaning that there will be less mess.
Training
Puppies need training just like any other youngster, dogs who know their place are much happier than dogs that are given indifferent training. We have got a dog trainer that organises puppy training for us. Please ask for more information if you are interested.
Neutering
We strongly recommend neutering of both female and male dogs.
